LG VX8370 coming to Verizon in early 2010

Launched by Verizon Wireless in January this year, the LG VX8360 will soon have a successor: LG VX8370.

The Bluetooth SIG has recently approved the VX8370, so we expect LG and Verizon to announce the new phone by the end of 2009 and make it available in early 2010 -- according to the Bluetooth SIG, the phone will be launched in the US in January next year.

Since VX8360 and the older VX8350 are clamshells, the new LG VX8370 is probably also a clamshell. We have no info about its features at the moment, except for the fact that it has Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR.

We're hoping to get our hands on a picture of the LG VX8370 soon.

The first LG BL40 review shows up

The first detailed LG BL40 preview came from Russia, and guess where does the first LG BL40 review come from? Russia, again.

This time it's Mobile-review that presents us the new Chocolate phone -- a prototype version, but still.

The reviewer's impression is that, because of its form factor -- thin, long candybar -- the BL40 will probably be a phone mainly bought by (or for) women. Might be.

We're only going to tell you that, apart from the different design and the longer display (4-inch, 345 x 800 pixels), the LG BL40 resembles the LG Arena KM900. It has the same UI -- S-Class Touch --, the same 5MP camera, the same 1,000 mAh battery, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, TV out and so on. Well, that's a good thing, as the Arena was sold in more than 1 million units until now, so it's clearly a successful phone.
It looks like LG will sell the BL40 for about 25,000 RUB in Russia. That's $790 or 550 Eur -- perhaps a bit more expensive than many would have wished. We'll see how much exactly the phone will cost in September-October, when it should become available all over Europe.

Until then, a handful of screenshots from BL40's UI can be admired below.

You can read the full LG BL40 Chocolate review automatically translated in English, or directly in Russian, if you know your way around Cyrillic letters.

LG HBM-900 Bluetooth headset review (video)

HBM-900 is the latest Bluetooth headset to come from LG, and it's currently available in the US and Canada (from Telus), for about $100.

The headset is elegant and features three microphones for a high-quality audio experience.
A video review of the LG HBM-900 has been recently published on YouTube, confirming the fact that the Bluetooth headset is worth its money.

A more detailed LG HBM-900 review can be read at ZDNET.

LG KV510 for China Telecom

After the LG KV920, China Telecom readies another touchscreen phone from LG. This time we're talking about a touchscreen-only handset, called LG KV510.

The phone looks a bit like the LG Cookie and features CDMA/Ev-Do, a 240 x 400 pixels touchscreen, full web browser and Bluetooth 2.1.

We don't have a price or a release date yet for the LG KV510, but we do have a picture of it, right after the jump.

LG GR700: upcoming touchscreen phone

Update: We have the first photo of the LG GR700, which is coming to AT&T.

LG GR700 is an unannounced phone that will most probably come with a touchscreen display.

The LG GR700 has a 240 x 400 pixels screen -- a typical resolution for touchscreens.

The phone's UAProfile unveils that it also has a keypad and GPRS/UMTS, but that's all we know about it at this very moment. Since it has a 240 x 400 display and a keypad, the GR700 might be similar to the LG KF700, seen below:
More details soon.

LG GD910 hits Orange UK this month

Orange UK will finally launch the LG GD910 next week, on the 27th of August -- a bit later than expected.

The watch phone will be exclusively offered by Orange on PAYG for £500, not £1,000 as initially believed. Customers will be able to buy it from the Orange shop at Bond Street Station, Central London, but only for a limited period of time. If you won't find one in store, the LG GD910 will also be sold online through Orange's website (although you'll have to wait until September for this to happen).
HSDPA, MP3 player, Bluetooth, voice command, video calling -- these are only few of the features included in the LG GD910. And, most importantly. despite its small size, typing on the watch phone's touchscreen is easy. Just watch this video promo:

LG Versa coming to Telus Canada as CX9600?

Update: LG Versa 9600 is now available at Telus.

It's almost a tradition for Canadian carriers to release phones after the same phones were introduced in the US, so we shouldn't be surprised if, say, Telus would soon announce the LG Versa -- available through Verizon for quite a while now.

Since Verizon's Versa is the VX9600, the Versa for Telus should be the CX9600 (Telus' LG phones have CX in their names: LG CX8600 Chocolate Flip, LG CX830 Vantage, LG CX380 etc).

Well, the LG CX9600 has been approved by the Bluetooth SIG as a CDMA phone, which makes it more than usable via the Telus network.

Verizon sell the LG Versa for $179.99 on contract, and we expect Telus to offer it for a similar price.

LG GD310 and GD580 photos, specs

LG GD310 and LG GD580 are two upcoming clamshells that weren't officially announced by LG. However, we have some photos of them, and even specs.

Let's start off with the LG GD310.

The phone features quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity, 2.4-inch QVGA internal display, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, MP3 player, and a 3 Megapixel camera.

LG GD310 will be available starting this fall. The Cyon and OZ branding suggests that it's going to be launched in South Korea first.

Now let's have a look at the LG GD580. This phone appears in a group photo, alongside LG BL40, LG BL42, LG GD900 Crystal, LG GC900 Viewty Smart, LG GT500 Puccini (for T-Mobile), LG GB250 and LG GB255.

Sadly, we only know about the GD580 that it has a 240 x 400 pixels internal display and it's going to be available in China later this year.

Also pictured is the LG KF350 II, which may be released as LG Ice Cream II.
More details soon.

LG BL40 Chocolate in new video, photos

LG BL40 Chocolate is almost ready to hit 54 countries around the word, but until then, why don't we take a closer look at it?

Coming as the world's first mobile phone to have a 345 x 800 pixels display, LG BL40 is set to woo customers with its appearance and features.

Mobiles.co.uk caught the phone on video, hands-on and all. The UI and the 4-inch touchscreen seems great -- the same can be told about the accelerometer and Web browsing:

Video aside, the Official LG UK Blog has some nice photos of the LG BL40:

We're still waiting to find out the price of this intriguing phone. It won't be a low one, that's for sure.

LG GD335 and KP500N launched with Islamic features

LG GD335 and LG KP500N are two new phones (for the Middle East) that come with unique applications to answer the needs of Islamic customers.

Available in Arabic markets starting this month, the GD335 and KP500N feature a Qiblah indicator, Quran software, Adhan and Salah prayer time alarm functions, Hijiri calendar, and a Zakat calculator -- all these should be of help during the holy month of Ramadan.

LG KP500N is actually the LG Cookie, so its specs include Active Flash UI, 240 x 400 pixels touchscreen display, accelerometer, 3.2 Megapixel camera, Music player and Bluetooth 2.1.

LG GD335 is a version of the GD330, offering a 2.2-inch QVGA screen, 2 Megapixel camera, Music player, Bluetooth and a 1GB microSD card.

FCC confirms the LG LX610 for Sprint

A couple of weeks ago, we were telling you about a new LG AX610 / UX610 / LX610 that should hit the US market in early 2010.

The LX610 version of the phone has now been confirmed for Sprint. Thanks to the FCC, we know that the LG LX610 will have EV-DO and Bluetooth.

There are no other details at the moment, but we still think the LX610 is the LG Lotus' successor, so expect it to be rather cheap on contract and have some sort of a QWERTY keyboard.

LG Cooky and Lollipop get new colors in South Korea

LG has recently launched its Cooky and Lollipop phones in two new colors for the South Korean market.

LG Cooky -- alternative spelling for Cookie -- now comes in Titan Grey (for SK Telecom) and Black Gold (for KTF), while LG Lollipop is available in Hot Red (for SK Telecom) and Citron Green (for KTF).

The new colors were chosen by LG after an online voting campaign.

30 million LG phones sold in Q2 2009

LG Electronics finished the second quarter of 2009 with 30.497 million cell phones sold, accounting for 10.7 percent of the global market. This allowed the company to distance itself from Motorola and Sony Ericsson, which are now the fourth and fifth largest phone makers in the world (with 15.9 million and 13.5 million phones sold, respectively).

Despite the fact that worldwide phone sales declined 6 percent, LG increased its market share when compared to Q2 2008 (26.6 million phones sold).

These are Q2 2009's the top five phone makers:

Nokia -- 105.413 mil units -- 36.8 percent
Samsung -- 55.430 mil units -- 19.3 percent
LG -- 30.497 mil units -- 10.7 percent
Motorola -- 15.947 mil units -- 5.6 percent
Sony Ericsson -- 13.574 mil units -- 4.7 percent
Others -- 65.260 mil units -- 23.0 percent

LG is expected to
"keep moving into lower-tier devices to drive growth in emerging markets and be well-positioned to take advantage of China's 3G roll-out as it can deliver good-value-for-money devices."
Speaking of China, we bet that the LG GD300s or China Mobile's LG oPhone will be well received by Chinese customers.

LG GB170 is a simple as it gets

LG is really determined to offer a large selection of entry-level phones this year. After the LG GB130, LG GB210, LG GB230 and the LG GB270, we now have the LG GB170 -- a simple candybar that should be on sale starting the next couple of months.

Weighing only 76.5 grams and measuring 103 x 46 x 13.9 millimeters, LG GB170 features dual-band GSM/GPRS connectivity (900/1800 MHz), a 1.5-inch TFT display with 65K colors and 128 x 128 pixels, Music player, Stereo FM radio, 8MB of memory, MicroSD card support, and a 950 mAh battery. No photo camera, as you can see.

We expect this phone to retail for less than $100.

LG L-04A and L-06A in funny Japanese commercial

LG L-04A and LG L-06A are two new phones available only in Japan, through the country's largest mobile carrier, NTT docomo.

The phones have appeared in a new funny commercial that showcases their touchscreen abilities -- it's in French and Japanese, but even if you don't know the languages, it's still funny. Plus, that Japanese girl is utterly cute:

As a bonus, we have some live photos of the LG L-04A -- in four colors: yellow, white, silver and pink -- found at mycom.co.jp. Nice phone, indeed:

LG GT950 high-end phone for AT&T?

Update: it's confirmed: AT&T will definitely launch the LG GT950.

We still don't have too many details regarding the LG GT950, but it looks like it's a phone that will reach the US via AT&T.

An "AT&T LG GT950" reference has appeared at EA Mobile's official website -- and they're most of the time (if not always) correct when it comes to which phone is for which carrier.

We must also note that the LG GT950 was recently approved by FCC with AT&T GSM and WCDMA bands included. So we're almost sure that this phone is coming to AT&T.
Feature-wise, we expect the GT950 to have a 480 x 800 pixels touchscreen display and good photo camera. It may also have a full QWERTY keyboard, like the already-available LG Neon GT365.

LG Elva, Dome and Synergy (no, not Palm's Synergy)

Innovation. That's what phone makers should bring to the market. LG Electronics is trying and also succeeding to do it for several years now.

And 2009 seems to be one of its best years when it comes to mobile phones: the company introduced highly-attractive devices like LG Arena KM900, LG GD900 Crystal and LG GC900 Viewty Smart, and is getting ready to launch the LG BL40 Chocolate, the world's first phone to have a 345 x 800 pixels display.

We're wondering: what's next? Well, LG is preparing other unique phones, that's what's next.

Take the LG Elva, for example -- an "easy-to-use text messaging phone". This phone has a jog dial, and a sliding mechanism that offers you either a QWERTY keyboard, or a numeric keypad. When in QWERTY (horizontal) mode, the keyboard lights up in blue; when in numeric (vertical) mode, it lights up in red.
The LG Elva should cots a mere $50. We're hoping that the final product has a larger display than the device presented in those images.

Now we go to the LG Dome. Its selling point would be the fact that it has "larger keys in one small package". How's that possible? The phone is a horizontal clamshell, and LG wants to literally hide its QWERTY keyboard when you close it. When you open it, the keyboard would "bloom" and let you do your texting.
We know, this device right here looks familiar when closed -- that's because it's similar to the LG enV3 and LG Keybo 2.

LG Dome should also feature a 3-inch internal display, GPS with turn-by-turn directions, HTML email and browser, MP3 and video player, and a 3 Megapixel camera. The phone's price would be somewhere around $150.

What about LG Synergy? Don't we already have Palm's webOS Synergy? Yes, we do, but LG Synergy seems to be the name of a netbook.

Based on Windows XP Home, LG Synergy has a 10-inch display and can wirelessly interact with your (LG) phone. Calls, text messages, calendar events and pictures from your phone can be viewed on the Synergy netbook -- which would be sold at $150 with a two-year contract agreement.
Of course, these products may never hit the market. But we're willing to bet our candy money on them.

AT&T LG Shine 2 (GD710) photo shows up

The very first image of the LG Shine 2 for AT&T has just appeared on the web, showing a phone that looks slightly better than the original Shine.

Most probably coming with the model name LG GD710, the Shine 2 should have a QVGA display and 3G connectivity. A 5 Megapixel camera is also in the rumors, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

We don't know when the LG Shine 2 will be available, and neither for what price.

LG to launch an oPhone for China Mobile

Today, LG has announced its plans to launch a phone based on China Mobile's own mobile platform, known as OMS (Open Mobile System).

According to Wang Qiuping, an LG representative, the company is also working to develop software for the upcoming oPhone. The handset will feature 3G TD-SCDMA, while including customized functions for China Mobile, like GPS and "Fetion" instant messaging.

An image of the LG oPhone was not provided. The handset should be available across China starting the fourth quarter of 2009.
Other LG phones destined for China are: LG GD300s, LG KT878 and LG KV920 (these don't run on China Mobile's OMS platform).

LG KM555 music phone coming soon

Update: LG KM555 is now official as LG KM555E

Remember the LG KM500? It was released in spring 2008 as a funky music phone with a 3.5mm audio jack and dedicated music keys.

A successor of the KM500 seems to be coming soon -- the LG KM555. This unannounced LG KM555 will have a 240 x 400 pixels display, UMTS/HSDPA connectivity and stereo audio chanels. We're guessing that it'll also have a 3.5mm jack, but that remains to be seen.

A picture, a price and a release date for the LG KM555 are yet to come. Until then, let us remind you what the KM500 looks like:

LG GD710 (Shine 2) confirmed for AT&T!

A few days ago, we told you that LG GD710 is probably AT&T's upcoming Shine 2, and it looks like we were damn right.

A leaked AT&T document lists the LG GD710 as coming soon to the no. 2 US carrier, although we still don't know when exactly it will be launched. The specs of LG GD710 should include a QVGA display, 3G and a 5 Megapixel camera.
Other non-LG phones that will make their way to AT&T: BlackBerry 9700, HTC Tilt 2 (presumably the Touch Pro2), HTC Pure / Snap, Garmin nuvifone G60, Nokia 6750 Mural, Nokia 6350, Nokia 2330, Samsung A797, Samsung A897, Pantech C790 and Pantech C7000.

Incoming: LG GD310 and GD510, probably mid to low-end phones

Update: LG GD510 is now official.

Until now, LG has announced only three phones from its GD series: LG GD330, LG GD900 Crystal and the LG GD910 watchphone. But there are many others to come.

We've already reported about the LG GD710 and LG GD300s (for China Mobile).

Other two unannounced phones are LG GD310 and LG GD510. Both are GSM phones that feature Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP -- as the Bluetooth SIG specifies here and here. LG GD310 seems to be destined for Asia, while the LG GD510 will also reach Europe and the Americas. The phones should be commercially available starting October/November this year.

No pictures available yet, but we'll post some as soon as we get them.

Verizon's LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 coming this month?

Hey, look: Best Buy is getting ready to sell a bunch of new phones on August 23, and one of them is the LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 for Verizon Wireless.

We're guessing that this is a CDMA version of the LG BL40 Chocolate, which would mean that VZ's customers will soon be able to buy a beast of a phone. You know, 345 x 800 pixels display, Dual Screen UI, 5 Megapixel camera and so on. Sure, it might actually be a totally different phone, but let's hope it's not.
The same day, Best Buy will apparently start selling AT&T's LG Xenon in red. Yummy!

LG GW300 for Orange UK - coming soon

Orange UK will soon offer the LG GW300 phone on pay as you go -- the first British carrier to sell this model.

With its smartphone-like design and that full QWERTY keyboard, LG GW300 is definitely a device that you should check out if you're not looking for something high-end.

The phone's features include a 2.4-inch QVGA landscape display, quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth, MP3 player, FM radio, 2 Megapixel camera and up to 5 hours of talk-time.
Orange doesn't mention the price of LG GW300 on PAYG, but we assume it'll be around £100.
