LG GD510 Pop officially announced

We were the first to announce the existence of LG GD510 and also among the first to post live photos of it. Now the LG GD510 is officially presented as "LG GD510 Pop" -- a name that clearly shows LG's intention to make the handset a best-seller.

Like the LG Cookie before it, LG GD510 Pop is a simple touchscreen phone with a 3-inch WQVGA display, 3.2 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth, music player and stereo FM radio.

To keep it all as simple as possible, LG designed the GD510 to ave only one hardware button on the front, which can act as the menu, end and end-call key.

What's interesting is that the phone also features an optional solar panel which can be installed on the back. LG didn't say if the solar panel is included in GD510's box or if it has to be purchased separately.

LG GD510 Pop will be available in Europe starting mid-October. Other markets will follow shortly. The price of GD510 was not disclosed, but it will vary depending on the country you buy it from. Video promo and lots of official photos after the jump.

LG GU220, GU230, GS190 and GS200

Update: LG GU230 is now official.

Update 2: LG GS200 is also official.

We don't know much about the LG GU220, GU230, GS190 and GS200 at the moment, but we do know (from here and here) that they exist, they're GSM phones with Bluetooth and they will soon be available in some markets around the world.

LG GU220 and LG GU230 are different names of the same phone -- the naming probably depends on the market where it will be launched. For example, the GU230 was recently approved by FCC, which says that it has 850/1900 GSM connectivity, but we assume it's a quad-band phone anyway.

Similarly, LG GS190 and LG GS200 are also different names of the same device -- a phone with a 128 x 160 pixels display.

The two unannounced handsets are likely low-end models. We'll bring more details as soon as new info is available.

LG GB250G from Fido Canada

Fido customers craving for a basic LG flip phone can now check out the new LG GB250G, introduced today by the Canadian carrier for 35 CAD on contract.

Known as LG GB250 in other parts of the world, LG GB250G is a quad-band GSM phone with 3G (850/1900 MHz), Bluetooth 2.1, Picture and Video Messaging, 1.3 Megapixel camera, MP3 player, FM radio, 22MB internal memory and microSD card support (4GB).

The phone measures 97.6 x 48.8 x 16.9 mm, weighs 84 grams and sports two displays: 2-inch TFT internal with 176 x 220 pixels and 262k colors, and 1-inch monochrome external with 96 x 64 pixels.

Although Fido launched the LG GB250G today, the phone doesn't seem to be in stock online, so you'll have to go find it in one of the carrier's retail stores across Canada.

LG Chocolate BL40 debuts in South Korea

LG announced that its BL40 Chocolate touchscreen phone will be released in South Korea under the company's Cyon brand.

The first 100 customers who register for the phone will also receive a luxury leather case designed by Sienna and Savannah Miller's twenty8twelve fashion label.

Save for the fact that it sadly doesn't have Wi-Fi, there are no changed features when it comes to the Korean LG BL40, so it's still the same high-end device with a 4-inch, 345 x 800 pixels touchscreen display, S-Class Touch UI, 5 Megapixel camera et cetera. The phone's price for South Korea was not announced.

LG GU280 slider phone coming soon

Update: the LG GU280 is now official as LG Popcorn

The quite large army of LG sliders (BL20 Chocolate included) will soon welcome a new member -- the LG GU280, a phone recently showcased by LG in The Netherlands.

The LG GU280 seems to be a handset that will have a low retail price, since its main features include 3G, 3 dedicated hotkeys, 1.3 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 and microSD card support. The phone's screen could be a QVGA one, but that's not confirmed.

Here we can see the GU280 next to a horde of Cookies and three low-end models (LG GB102, LG GB110 and LG KG375):

And here's the LG GU280 in detail:

More info on the LG GU280 should be available soon.

LG BL20 in white/pink and other colors

LG New Chocolate BL20
will be released in various color versions, apart from the black/red one already seen.

For example, there will be a black/grey version, a violet/grey and a white/pink one.

Knowing how LG launches its fashion-oriented phones, it's almost safe to say that the New Chocolate BL20 will have even more colors. But until we get to see those, let's have a look at the three mentioned ones.

The black/grey BL20 looks really elegant, doesn't it?

LG New Chocolate BL20 promo video leaked

It's almost official: the phone that initially appeared as LG BL42 Chocolate will be released as LG New Chocolate BL20.

Someone from A1 Austria (the country's largest mobile carrier) has uploaded on YouTube a promo video of the LG BL20, promo video that looks to be made by LG.

Some rumored specs of the BL20 phone are now confirmed: 2.4-inch QVGA display, 3G and 5 Megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens and flash. The phone further comes with hidden touch navigation keys, smooth side-touch controls, a convenient widget hotkey and "Clear Memo Capture with Text Scan".

We're still unaware of the BL20's release date, but the existence of the promo video tells us that LG will announce the phone really soon.

LG AX310 launched by Alltel

Back in the spring we were telling you that Alltel is getting ready to launch the LG AX310 -- an entry-level clamshell like the AX300. We were obviously right, and today Alltel and LG have announced the release of the AX310.

The phone features two displays, 1.3 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth, one-touch speakerphone, voice-activated calling and speaker-independent voice commands.

LG AX310 is available as of today in Alltel's stores and online. The phone costs only $29.99 after a $30 mail-in rebate, with a contract agreement for 1 (one) year.

Official photos of the LG AX310 aren't available right now, but the FCC has some shots of the phone so you can make an idea on what it looks like:

LG GT350 and LG KM570 in the making

Update: LG GT350 is now official.

LG GT350 and LG KM570 are two phones that have a lot in common. They're made by LG -- yes, we know, we're utterly smart to have noticed that --, they are not officially announced, they have 240 x 400 pixels displays (touchscreens, almost certainly), and they feature Obigo Q7 web browsers.

Furthermore, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA are also present on both the GT350 and KM570.

All this info was taken from here and here (.xml files).

As far as we know, the only "GT" phones from LG are: LG GT500, LG GT505 and LG GT365 (also known as LG Neon, LG KS360 and LG GT360 in Chile). We don't really see a pattern here, but the GT350 might be a GT365 Neon without a QWERTY keyboard and a larger screen.

LG KM570 (not to be mistaken for the Mexican KP570 Cookie) could be a new music phone, like the LG KM555 -- which isn't announced either.

Another thing that unites the LG GT350 and LG KM570 is the fact that there are no images of them available. Anyways, just for the sake of adding photos to blog posts, let us remind you what the aforementioned LG GT505 looks like:

We would certainly not mind if the LG GT350 turns out to be something along these lines.

LG plans to sell 120 million phones in 2009

In 2008, LG sold 100 million mobile phones, becoming the world's third-largest handset vendor. For this year, the Seoul-based company plans to sell 20% more and thus reach the 120 million mark.

LG already sold more than 52 million phones in the first half of this year -- 22.6 million units in the first quarter and about 30 million in the second quarter.

Skott (Seung-Kwon) Ahn, LG Mobile's CEO and Executive Vice President, declared:
"The target consists of 75 million GSM-based phones and 45 million CDMA-based ones."
We're hoping that new phones like the LG BL40 Chocolate and the Android-based LG GW620 will help the company to achieve its goals.

LG GW620. LG, meet Android. Android, meet LG

The Vodafone-bound LG Etna turned out to be the LG GW620, a smartphone officially announced today by LG as its first Android device!

Targeted at both smartphone users and heavy messaging users, LG GW620 features a 3-inch HVGA resistive touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard that's a bit similar to the one of LG GW520 -- although it has 5 rows instead of 4.

The new smartphone probably runs Android 1.5 OS -- LG didn't say anything about this and neither about any form of customized software available on the GW620.

But let's carry on: the smartphone also comes with GSM and HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Music player, MP4 player, 3.5mm audio jack, stereo FM radio, threaded SMS, push email, and a 5 Megapixel autofocus camera. The processor speed is not known.

Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, stated:
"The LG GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience. Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today’s consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead."
Good. It's about time for LG to conquer the smartphone market too.

What's interesting for us is that the LG GW620 is designed in the same manner as the Motorola Cliq (also called Dext), which is Motorola's first Android smartphone.

So we have two giant handset makers with their first Android efforts that will pro'lly be bought by the same category of customers. We're obviously betting on LG in this fight.

Press photos of the GW620 below. The smartphone will be available in Europe starting Q4 2009. Pricing details were not unveiled.

LG BL40 Chocolate praised by Vogue, GQ, ELLE, Esquire, Wallpaper

Launched last week in the UK and available for free on select plans, or for £399.95 unlocked, the LG BL40 Chocolate has recently been praised by a number of respected fashion magazines, including Vogue, ELLE, GQ, Esquire and Wallpaper.

For example, Charlotte Sinclaire, Commissioning Editor at Vogue, said about the new Chocolate phone that "it looks rather like a chic, Art Deco cigarette case. I suppressed a sigh of joy when I first laid eyes on its stunning body. It offers the iPhone some pretty stiff competition. I think I’ve been seduced."

Marissa Bourke, Creative Editor at ELLE: "It’s a super chic piece of design that redefines the meaning of discreet luxury. The stimulating wide design scores 10 out of 10 for looks and it feels great in the hand. It’s a must have."

Dylan Jones of GQ (Gentlemen's Quarterly) thinks the phone is "glossy, chic and thin like a supermodel. Its distinctive ratio is a genuine innovation. It has taken conventional mobile design in a new direction. It doesn't even feel like a phone at all."

Mansel Fletcher, Style Editor at Esquire: "Initially I was simultaneously seduced and baffled by the purity of the Chocolate’s shape and its incredibly glossy black screen. With design panache, the new Chocolate looks perfect, striking in an understated way."

"An elegant, slightly mysterious modernist sculpture, the new LG Chocolate caused gasps of envy from my fellow dinners. When ‘sleeping’, the blacked-out LG has the allure of secret service man’s limousine, but when woken, the graphic icons are bright, clear and legible," were the words said Tony Chambers, Editor-in-Chief of Wallpaper.

To make the BL40 even more fashionable, LG has convinced Sienna and Savannah Miller to promote the phone -- the first thing this collaboration brings is a luxurious twenty8twelve leather case.

More cool photos of the LG BL40 after the jump.

LG GB230 Dynamite for India

Officially announced in Ukraine in May this year, LG GB230 was recently introduced in India (where the LG GM730 was also launched), as LG GB230 Dynamite.

The GB230 Dynamite is a slider that features a 176 x 220 pixels screen, Wireless FM recording, dedicated FM button, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1, email, MMS, SMS, polyphonic ringtones, 2 Megapixel camera and a battery that can last up to 500 hrs in standby.

LG GB230 Dynamite only has 5.3MB of built-in memory but, luckily, it comes bundled with a 2GB Memory Card.

The LG GB230 Dynamite's price for India is of about Rs. 6,000 ($124). The phone should be available through major retailers across the country.

Unlocked LG BL40 priced at £400 in the UK

The LG BL40 Chocolate is now available in the UK, not only via Orange, as we initially thought, but also via O2.

The gorgeous touchscreen phone can be bought for various prices, depending on what contract agreement the customer chooses. For example, the BL40 is free with an Orange Dolphin 30 plan for 24 months, or with an O2 600 + Unlimited contract for the same period of time.
If you want to buy the phone unlocked, you'll have to pay £399.95 -- about $660 (from Carphone Warehouse).

There's also the Pay As You Go option from Orange -- the LG BL40's price in this case is of £415.94.

Before checking out all the LG BL40 offers for the UK at Phones Limited, you may want to also check out this LG BL40 review.

LG GM730 launched in India. Price: Rs 24,000

LG and Qualcomm have recently held an event in India, launching the GM730 Windows Mobile smartphone.

Unlike the newer LG GM750, the GM730 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1. The handset also features a 240 x 400 pixels touchscreen display, 5 Megapixel autofocus camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, GPS, Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth, microUSB, microSD card support, and LG's 3D S-Class Touch UI.

LG GM730 will be available in India starting this month. Its price is of Rs 24,000 -- about $495. The smartphone comes to India at the same time with the LG Application Store, which includes over 1,400 paid and free apps.

LG FAMEUS contest debuts - win LG phones and $50,000

LG Mobile USA together with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Lakeshore Entertainment have announced the LG FAMEUS competition.

The competition is part of a marketing campaign for the new FAME movie -- remake of the Oscar-winning 80's musical film of the same name.

The new FAME film is set to debut on September 25, starring Naturi Naughton, Kay Panabaker and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.

Until then, LG offers you the chance to win LG mobile phones, an an LG home entertainment system, or $50,000 in cash. To enter the contest for the $50,000 you have make a video showcasing your dancing talent and submit it online. For winning LG phones or the LG home entertainment system, you only have to watch submitted videos and vote them.

The contest will run until October 25. If you're interested, head on over to the LG FAMEUS official website.

Ehtisham Rabbani, vice president of product strategy and marketing for LG Mobile Phones, declared:
"Like LG, this film celebrates personal passions. We listen to the needs of our current consumers which transcend into the development of future handsets. From the start, our partnership with MGM and Lakeshore has been rewarding and gives us another platform to facilitate self-expression. Our campaign ranges wide from performing arts to discovering the LG mobile phone that best fits you. Most importantly, we get to bridge the gap between the excitement around the film and our consumers' lives."

Android LG Etna headed to Vodafone

Vodafone will apparently have (at least) two really nice LG smartphones this year. One of them is the already announced LG GM750, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.5, and the other one is an Android handset that was showcased by Vodafone as "LG Etna" during IFA 2009 in Germany.

We're almost sure that the final name of the smartphone will not be Etna, as LG seems to have given this codename to several phones (including the Neon for AT&T and the LG GW520 -- see here).

Well, regardless of its name, the Vodafone-bound LG Android phone looks like this:

Yes, there's a sliding QWERTY keyboard in there, alongside a 3-inch touchscreen display, a 5 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth and USB.

Other features are not known at the moment. We'll report back when we hear something official about the LG Etna.

LG GT500 from Yoigo Spain?

Already available in the UK as a T-Mobile exclusive, the LG GT500 seems to be making its way to Spain via Yoigo -- the country's largest MVNO.

Yoigo's website doesn't show the LG GT500 yet, but this XML file suggests that the Spanish operator will soon add the phone to its portfolio.

Also known as LG Puccini, the GT500 is a full-touch phone with a 3-inch WQVGA display, accelerometer, Wi-Fi, GPS, HTML browser, Dolby Mobile, 5 Megapixel camera, GSM/HSDPA connectivity and microSD card support -- only up to 8GB.

The LG GT500 measures 107 x 54.5 x 11.8 millimeters and comes with a battery capable of providing up to 3.5 hours of talk-time, or up to 310 hours of stand-by time. It's not a bad phone, that's for sure.

LG GW520 review: a nice QWERTY Cookie

If you've seen the LG GW520 around you've been probably wondering: is it a good phone?

Well, GSM Arena has just published an LG GW520 review, and the reviewer says that the LG GW520 is like an LG Cookie with a user-friendly QWERTY keyboard and 3G connectivity -- obviously a compliment, since the Cookie is one of LG's most popular touchscreen phones.

Considering its low retail price (160 Eur), the LG GW520 seems to be an excellent messaging phone. Its sliding QWERTY keyboard is well-designed, the 240 x 400 pixels touchscreen display is responsive, the Widget-ready UI does its job well, Web browsing is OK, and the 3 Megapixel camera takes pretty good photos (for a non-autofocus camera).

Other highlights: accelerometer, push email, Facebook application, cool music player, excellent loudspeaker, hot-swappable microSD card slot.

Minuses: no Wi-Fi, no GPS, no 3.5mm headset jack, poor video recording quality, no photo flash. Read the full LG GW520 review at GSM Arena.

LG BL42 is the BL20 - live photos inside

This is a bit confusing: it looks like the LG BL42 will not be called that way, but LG BL20.

The BL42 / BL20 is one of LG's new Chocolate phones, although it's not as high-end as the full-touch BL40.

LG presented the BL20 at IFA 2009. The phone's features include 2.4-inch QVGA display, HSDPA, Bluetooth, 5 Megapixel camera with flash, and MicroSD card support.

The LG BL20 could be officially announced next week.
